Painting ‘trim’ surfaces like eavestroughs, downspouts, soffits, fascia and flashing is a key part of our service offering across the GTA and Golden Horseshoe of Ontario. Painting your vinyl or aluminum siding can have a massive impact, but if the surrounding surfaces are still ‘faded and dated’ you’ll want to ‘get them painted’ as well. Luckily we can do just that as we routinely refresh these surfaces, whether metal, wood, or vinyl, at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
If your gutters and soffits are functioning fine, then it would be silly to replace them just to get a colour change. Painting is the best option. We can do this work along with siding painting, or even on its own. Many clients with brick homes will hire us to only paint all of their ‘trim’ and completely update the look of their house for a nominal investment!
Painting eavestroughs, soffits, and fascia can significantly enhance your home’s curb appeal and protect these crucial elements from the elements. You can read a lot about our general painting process throughout our website, but here we’ll talk about some specifics for these surfaces.
Preparation for Painting
- Eavestrough Cleaning: Our first step is to rigorously clean the eavestroughs, soffits, and fascia. We accomplish this with well equipped and high-powered pressure washers. We need to remove all dirt and grime from the substrates before painting.
- Mildewcide: Sometimes there is growth or mildew buildup on the surfaces and we’ll use an appropriate cleaning detergent and then thorough rinsing to remove it.
- Ivy or Vegetation Remnants: If there are the remains of old ivy or vines on the surfaces, we will remove those remnants by scraping and sanding, aiming for 85-90% removal, and also ensuring that whatever remains will not interfere with the adhesion or longevity of the new coating.
Painting Procedure
- Quality Exterior Paint: We use the same high-quality paints on eavestroughs, soffits, and fascia as we do on siding. There are some slight variations in the specific products, but they are paints that are formulated for spray application and use on aluminum and metal surfaces. These paints provide UV resistance and can withstand extreme temperatures.
- Spray Painting: Applying the paint by spray allows us to get into all the nooks and crannies of these surfaces while ensuring a thorough and even coating. This is just not achievable by hand painting, which would produce a far inferior result. You can learn a lot more about the details of this process on our spray painting page.
- A Super Smooth Coat: We use an extra fine spray tip for these surfaces to produce a particularly smooth and durable finish. This has numerous advantages like allowing us to mask over the paint for doing a different colour on siding, but also it increases the self-cleaning properties of the coating as well as the moisture resistance, durability, and overall look of the final result.
Finishing Up
- Checking for Uniform Coverage: Post-painting, we conduct a thorough inspection for any missed areas or uneven coverage.
- Cleanup: We’re committed to leaving your property clean, carefully tidying up after completing the job.
Additional Points
- Colour Selection for Eavestroughs: Paint for aluminum surfaces can be mixed in any colour. The entire pallet from Sherwin Williams is available to you, and we can also have any physical sample custom matched, as long as we can take it into the paint store and it is of a smooth and uniform colour.
- Repainting Frequency: Contrary to common misconceptions, eavestroughs don’t require frequent repainting if done correctly. The need for a repaint usually arises from a desire to change the colour rather than out of necessity.
- 10-Year Warranty: Considering the above, we are proud to extend our 10-year non-peeling warranty to aluminum eavestroughs, downspouts, soffits, fascia, and flashing.
- DIY vs Professional Service: While DIY painting of eavestroughs is possible, hiring professionals like us ensures efficiency and effectiveness, particularly in challenging spots.
- Previously Peeling Surfaces: Hand-painted DIY jobs of these surfaces often leads to peeling, which cannot reasonably be remedied. For example, if we come across a case of peeling paint from eavestroughs, we will not take the job. Besides that, the cost of scraping and sanding all the nooks and crannies of soffits and gutters is so prohibitive it makes more sense at that point to just purchase replacement surfaces.

Incredible Value - Even More Than Siding Painting?
Monotone Colour Schemes
Many homeowners are not looking to make a drastic statement with their house’s exterior. Instead they want a clean, respectable, well-maintained, or modern look to their house. One of the best ways to achieve this is to paint your ‘trim’ surfaces like eaves, soffits, and fascia the same colour as your siding or body of your house. This is a popular option due to the blended and elegant look.
But there is an additional benefit to this strategy and that is the cost savings that can be had by painting a monotone colour scheme. You see with our spray painting process and service, the majority of the work is in the masking and preparation. Once everything has been diligently prepared and so long as everything has been done properly, the actual spray painting process does not take long.
This means that by painting your house in a monotone colour scheme, we do not have to mask off your soffits to protect them from overspray, instead we need to protect your roof, which is less time intensive. Furthermore, if you opt for a two-tone colour scheme, where the trims are a different colour than the siding or body, then it will require an entire extra round of masking work to do that second colour tone, which adds significantly to the cost.
So while you are investing in having use come out to do pressure washing and then sending a crew to do the painting work, it’s not actually a lot of extra expense to also add in the painting of eavestroughs and soffits in many cases. This makes it a tremendous way to add value and impact to your final result!
Multi-Toned Colour Schemes
With the above being said, the opposing advantage of our process is that the sky’s the limit in terms of colour schemes and combinations. We can create any look you want by painting trims, fascia, eavestroughs, and soffits in any combination of colours you would like.
Usually clients will opt for a simple two-tone with soffits/eaves/fascia all in one colour, and then the siding or body in a 2nd colour tone
Some clients will choose to paint soffits the same as the body and opt for a change only on eavestroughs and fascia
More rarely, we’ve had clients choose 3 colours for a diverse and unique look, to express their creativity and personality and make their home truly their own
Each approach has different labour and material requirements and will differ in price, but we’re happy to discuss multiple options for you and can provide different quotes for different scopes of work.
In conclusion, our eavestrough painting service not only refreshes the look of your home but also adds a protective layer to these essential components. With our professional touch, your home improvement efforts will yield lasting results, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional aspects of your house exterior.
